The only PHP book I've used is Core PHP Programming by Leon Atkinson. Everthing I've learned has been through that book, online tutorials and resources, and lots of trial and error.
It has created a permanent dust-free rectangle on my desk, along with MySQL by Paul DuBois.
Cheers,
Dan

You're welcome. If you're interested in programming beyond just tweaking scripts, I think you'll find both quite useful. I use the MySQL book mostly as a reference resource, not having read it cover to cover yet. Core PHP Programming works well as both a teaching aid (read straight through) and as a reference. I find the online PHP Manual to be helpful for a lot of day to day stuff.
